EARLY WARNING - BURUNDI

AND THE STEPS THAT ANY EUROPEAN GOVERNMENT CAN TAKE

One of the world's most remarkable peace processes is under attack these very
days.

For years the international media have been ignorant about the fascinating story
of how 8 million Burundians are moving down the road to peace.

But they do cover the last rebel group when it bombs the capital Bujumbura and
last week killed 38 people.

The international community has not help this "Oasis of Peace" with even half of
its desperate needs for humanitarian assistance - which on an annual basis
equals about 8 hours of the US presence in Iraq!!

The world's priorities are absurd and inhuman. Couldn't we get them right for
once and prevent a new war in Africa? It would be easy, quick and cheap for the
Europeans.

TFF board member and coordinator in Burundi, Ina Curic, and I here send you our
thoughts on the situation in Burundi. It is an early warning and an appeal to
support the country and its people-based peace process - before it could be
derailed.

President Nkurunziza has appealed to the world about help now.

We urge the international community, the EU and its governments in particular,
to live up to their stated peace goals and promises at one donor conference
after the other.

"The global responsibility to protect must include the protection of peace and
of 8 million people who deserve to be rewarded for their remarkable maturity and
vision.
Listen to Burundi¹s cry now! If there ever were a case for civilian humanitarian
intervention, this is it. And the time is now."
